Volume Does Not Mean Liquidity
By Walid Mograbi · · 1 min read
Activity can look strong while real liquidity remains weak.
Core lesson
High trading volume can signal real activity, but it can also be created by automated trades. Volume alone does not prove that a market is easy to enter or exit.
What liquidity looks like
Real liquidity shows up when you can buy or sell without the spread widening much. That is the practical test, not the headline number.
Why volume can mislead
A market may appear busy while the underlying liquidity stays weak. If the move looks strong but getting out is difficult, the volume figure is not enough.
Checklist
- Can you enter and exit easily?
- Is the movement natural or automated?
- Is the gap between bid and ask narrow?
Warning
Do not base your decision on trading volume alone.
How this helps
It helps you separate visible activity from the liquidity that makes entering and leaving a position easier.
